Success: Character And Integrity

Achieving success will fall apart without character. You can make money without it--but it will be useless to you and others around you. It remains one of the most important of life's puzzles. Con artists and drug dealers may have money--but they have no character.

If you want a legacy of honesty as you age then don't let lack of character mar your hard work in achieving success. People may well pity you and this can cause you to become less than you were intended to be.

Character equals integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing all the time, even when no one else is watching. You don't have anything to fear when your integrity is intact, because you have nothing to hide. You experience no guilt and no fear. And without those two traveling companions, it's much easier to climb higher and farther, faster!

To put it in practical terms--You will put the golden rule into work at all times. Some people will step on other people to get what they want; climbing the corporate ladder on the shoulders of others. With character and integrity, you will treat people with respect and dignity. You will treat others in the way that you expect to be treated.

You will be the model of "doing the right thing" in your office, even if it isn't appreciated or understood. Chances are very good that if you're the only one doing the right thing, you won't last where you are, but you will find something better where your integrity is appreciated and applauded.

Character realizes that the most important things in life are not office- or work-based. They are family and a sense of responsibility to that family. Character will not sacrifice your family on the altar of "I've got to finish this project," nor will it tell your children, "Maybe next time, Hon," when asked to play catch.

When you put your family before your work, your character will shine through. You will purposefully schedule time for them in your planner. (and keep the appointments). You will "date" your wife or husband and remember that's why you're here in the first place. Your spouse and children can be proud of the example that you set.

Remember that your children will grow up to be just like you. "We teach what we know; we reproduce who we are"--spoken by John Maxwell. Living your life with character and integrity will cause you to reproduce children with the same traits. Those traits will follow you and your children as you progress toward success in your life? And isn't that what it's really all about anyway ??
