A sales representative always has the name of the company on his or her shoulders. They have the task of directly selling the product, which include showcasing, thinking up strategies and developing techniques. different sales representatives have different jobs and requirements, as well as different duties expected of them.

There are certain sales representatives that need to have a detailed background about the products they're selling. For example, a pharmaceutical company's sales representative would need to have a degree in science, medicine or pharmacy to be able to credibly sell anything. Many companies in fact hire people with just these skills.

Sales representatives also get paid differently. Some sales representatives are paid for every product that they sell, while others have set salaries, and are usually given bonuses if their quota is reached or surpassed. The first pay structure is called commission sales.

In general, sales representatives usually work must harder if they are paid on a commission basis. There may be some months when they aren't able to sell anything, which means that they won't get paid, while there could be other months when money just keeps on coming in.
