One of the tools you are going to need to operate your coffee shop are good employees. You don't want to just hire the first people that walk through the door. Hiring friends and family can create issues outside of the business so many people choose to steer clear of that as well. It is very important that you hire the best employees that will be friendly, offer quality service to customers, show up when they should, and be open to new ideas.

Customers may end up waiting for their orders longer than they should because you are short staff. They may not care if they have to wait once in a while but it if becomes a regular occurrence, they are going to start getting their coffee somewhere else. You also have to set a good example for all of the other employees. If they find you don't care about attendance others will start to take advantage of it as well.

There are some other valuable skills that you need from your employees as well. Look for individuals that are well groomed, friendly, willing to communicate what they need, they smile, and they are a good listener. You also want to hire people to work for you that have a very positive attitude. Negativity can spread like a poison for your business. Other employees and even customers will pick up on their poor attitude.

The attitude that a person displays is very important. What they say and do is going to reflect upon your business. A person with a positive attitude is going to be more willing to do what it takes to get the job done. They are much easier to train and you will find them pleasant to be around.

The way in which you train your employees is going to affect how well they perform for you. It is amazing how many employers expect an employee to learn it all immediately but they don't put too much time into helping them learn it. There are plenty of different drinks to learn how to make and pieces of equipment to learn how to operate in a coffee shop. Don't leave your employees in the dark when it comes to how to do their job.

If you don't have a good training program in place for your employees, you will find your turnover rate is high. That means understaffed to meet the needs of your customers. It also means going through that application and interview process again and again. Employees that are well trained tend to feel confident that they can perform well on the job and they stick with it.

Good employees need to be acknowledged for their abilities as well. Let them know you notice the great job they are doing. If you can afford it, give them a bonus or some other initiative to continue working as they are. You need the employees to be vested in the good of your coffee shop business. If they don't care then your business is going to suffer from it.

Great help for your coffee shop isn't something that you should struggle with. Not every employee you hire is going to work out well, but be willing to accept this. You will find most people are reliable, honest, and hard workers. They want to be able to show you want they can do so be willing to give them a chance. A good job is hard to come by so make sure you treat all of your employees well. Nothing will run them off faster than a poor boss.
