Before you get yourself involved in a vending machine business you need to carefully think about all of the possible things that could go wrong. One area that too many people fail to consider is the issue of keeping your vending machines in good working condition. This is often an advantage of buying new vending machines because they will generally work better. Sometimes there will be problems that arise with new vending machines though so be prepared for them. Used vending machines can save you money but they will likely have more repair issues. If you don't take care of them you will find it is going to cost your vending machine business money.
It is important to take a look at all of your vending machines on a weekly basis. Do more than just stock them and move on to the next one. Take the time to check over the vending machine. Put some change in it and make sure you get your product. Put in a dollar and make sure you get your change back. Count the amount of money in the vending machine and compare it to the number of items sold. If you have more money than items gone then people are getting ripped off from your vending machines.
Your vending machine needs to give back proper change as well. You can adjust the price of your products as you need to, but make sure you are able to set it up properly. If you are selling soda for $.75 and they put in a dollar then they deserve to get their $.25 back. If they don't they will stop using your vending machine and that is going to cost you money in the long run even though you made a little bit of extra money off of them initially.
Have you ever placed money into a vending machine and then it doesn't give you the soda you purchased? If you really wanted it then you might put more money in the machine and try it again. If you don't have addition money with you though you have to walk away frustrated and disappointed. There are also those snack vending machines where the product gets stuck as it is moving forward and doesn't fall down in to the bin for the customer to receive it. This is frustrating as well and most customers will attempt to shake the vending machine in order to get it to drop the product.
It is a good idea to have your name and phone number on the vending machine. This allows customers to report any problems they may be having with the vending machine to you. This way you don't have to wait and discover that it has problems when you go to restock it and discover it is still full. It is a good practice to refund your customers that got their money taken from your vending machine if they do contact you for problems.
What often happens though is that most people don't waste their time to tell you that your vending machine ripped them off. They may think it is just an isolated incident and go about their business. The problem comes in when they return to use the vending machine again later on and the same situation occurs. Now they have lost money in it twice and they are frustrated. As a result they are going to avoid returning to your vending machine and you have lost a customer. They may tell co-workers and others in the area about it and that is going to cost you even more customers
You definitely don't want this to happen because most of your business is going to come from regular customers using the vending machine again and again. They don't like being ripped off though and they will avoid those machines that aren't reliable. Nothing will ruin your vending machine faster than having machines out there that don't work properly.
If your vending machine does keep their change on a rare occasion most customers won't make it a big deal. However, they are going to get tired of this scenario very quickly and simply choose to stop using your vending machine. You need to make sure you test all of the different functions on your vending machines on a regular basis. Keeping them working is a very important part of your vending machine business. If you don't know much about vending machine repairs then you have to start learning about it now.
