Background checks are very common now. While people applying for a job used to just go through a simple background check, nowadays people can do a background check for just about any reason and the checks have become much more extensive than they used to be. What is an extensive background check? Read on to find out!

To help you determine who the players are in this article, the person who is receiving the comprehensive background check is known as the "subject" while "checker" will be the name used for the person that's performing the background check.

A comprehensive background check gives the checker access to the following details about the "subject".

Identity: Verifying a persons identity is a necessary evil - particularly for prospective employees. Many bits of hidden facts can be easily discovered by running a detailed background check.

Checking someones identity can turn up many important pieces of information. The check can uncover the social security number of the subject, when and where that persons social security number was issued, a history of the addresses where they lived as well as their birth date. This check can also uncover any aliases they have used and even details of who they lived with at a particular place - even non-relatives like room mates! Included in this check may be any marriage records, death records and verifying facts about their drivers license.

Finances: A detailed background check provides the facts about a subjects financial situation. This can help creditors determine the credit worthiness of the subject and can also help prospective employers determine whether or not the job applicant is a responsible person.

By uncovering a subjects financial background, many details are discovered. The information displays their credit history as well as any action by the courts in regards to any bankruptcy and judgments they may have. It also presents their property and vehicle records that are registered in their name.

Financial information almost always contains a credit history check. A credit history check will tell the checker what the subject's financial history is for the last seven years. This includes all bills, all credit lines, and all loans taken out by the subject and how well they have paid on their debt. Sometimes you can even find out how many employers a person has had by checking into their credit history.

Professional History: The professional history of a subject may shed light on how valuable they might be as a new employee.

When checking out a subjects professional history, you may discover items that they were not disclosed by the subject which could be either detrimental or advantageous to you if you plan to hire them. They may have affiliations with other businesses or organizations they didn't think was important. They might have professional licenses that are important to your business but they didn't think so. Find out in advance so you don't have to find out after you've hired them.

Criminal History: A detailed criminal background check can save you from hiring a potential employee who may be a convicted felon with a violent past. If you have two candidates with essentially the same capabilities, why not choose the one without restricted rights that might impact your business in a negative way?

The criminal history check will always include a look through the Sexual offender's database; this can be done by name or location. There are also searches for felonies, these records will contain details about the offense and description of the ordered sentence. A criminal history check can also check the state wide criminal records. Criminal records stay in a state's database for seven years.

A subjects criminal history may also show a driving record as well as any county-wide criminal records.

Comprehensive background research can be used by a wide variety of people. Research has been used to pre-screen employees, check on spousal claims, check out a childs teacher or caregiver, check elderly parents caregiver, etc. If you want to feel more comfortable with who you're dealing with, there is a lot of information available to you.
